Hello CSRA Seniors Golfers, Last week we held another successful tournament at Ponderosa. We had over 90 golfers in the competition in 6 flights. The results are posted to the website on the 2023 Tournaments page: https://www.csraseniorsgolf.org/2023-tournaments.html. Pace of play improved at Ponderosa compared with the February event at Woodside; however, there was still about 1 hour between the first and last scorecards to be turned in. In future events, we want to try to reduce this to 30 minutes maximum, and we are interested in your feedback about how to continue to improve the pace of play. We made a change in the scoring process at Ponderosa, moving to a more manual scoring with more scoring teams. You may have noticed that we set up scoring tables and divided up the scoring between the front and back tees. We improved our scoring process, and we want to improve it further at West Lake Country Club in April. We thank everyone who has been checking scorecards to make sure that points + strokes for each player total 108 (on a par 72 course). We want to ask one more thing of all golfers: PLEASE CALCULATE THE NET POINTS ABOVE OR BELOW PLAYING QUOTA FOR THE PLAYER YOU SCORE. Please validate it as part of signing off on the card. NET SCORE = POINTS - QUOTA For example, if a player earns 24 points and has a quota of 27.83, his NET SCORE is equal to -3.83. Each player should know his NET SCORE. We will use our clipboards to post top NET SCORES by flight before calling the results. If we improve the pace of play as much as we hope, there will be a lot of scorecards to handle at once. If you can volunteer to help validate and sort scorecards for a flight, please let us know. After the flights are called, we will enter the results into the computer and publish them on the website as soon as possible. We have learned, there can be some big differences in the ways the scorecards get filled out. In the interest of time, we need to ask all competitors and scorers to take the time to check and agree on each player's NET SCORE to continue to improve the time to post results. Here is the section of a scorecard from Ponderosa, where the NET SCORE is shown. You can see the value of the NET SCORE shown in the last column. As you finish your rounds, please make sure to calculate, record and validate the NET SCORE on the scorecard you keep. Make sure to sign the card with the player before you turn it in. We are looking forward to the West Lake Country Club event as well as the rest of the 2023 season. We have started looking at courses that we may want to add to our rotation, and we are preparing a survey to get your feedback on possible future options. Thanks in advance for sharing your ideas and suggestions for keeping our seasons interesting. We want to thank everyone for their patience and support as we learn the ropes of managing this group. We appreciate your support. Mike Balnaves Comments are closed.
